The pick band sits awkwardly: P1P3 to P1P5 if you have already committed to a white aggressive shell, considerably later otherwise. He is not a splash, and he is not a generic white one-drop, because the Sneak cost only resolves the combat math it promises if the rest of your curve is wide enough to make +2/+0 a kill rather than a poke.

RW Equipment and WB Go-Wide are the homes that care. The two read him differently: RW wants the hardcast turn-one body that holds Bespoke Bō without locking into a creature the opponent can answer cheaply, and treats Sneak as a late-game finisher when an equipped attacker connects. WB Go-Wide is the archetype that genuinely wants the mode, because that deck routinely fields four or five attackers and the anthem rewrites a stalled race in one step. Selesnya legendary midrange takes him fourth or fifth, mostly as a curve filler that occasionally steals a game.

The format physics help him more than the rate suggests. Common ground sits at 2/2 and 2/3, which means the first-strike activation genuinely brackets combat: a turn-two attack into an open 2/3 is a real question for the defender, and the activation cost is cheap enough to bluff. Grounded for Life is the punisher to track, since tapping him to attack invites the discount mode, and Stomped by the Foot answers him cleanly at any point. Maindeck in white aggressive decks, sideboard nowhere; the Sneak line is the reason to draft him, not a bonus on top of a vanilla one-drop.

Draftsim's 7/10 reads the activation correctly but undersells how dependent the Sneak payoff is on already being the wide-board deck.

The white one-drop body matters less than the question of which white aggro deck wants a combat-step anthem that only fires off the alternate cost. Hardcast, Leonardo, Leader in Blue is a 2/1 with a first-strike outlet, a fine but unremarkable curve filler. The +2/+0 to your team only happens if you paid the swap inside declare blockers, which means you need a wide, already-attacking board to convert.

That points at go-wide white token and aggro commanders. Adeline, Resplendent Cathar is the strongest fit: she floods the board the anthem wants, and her own attack trigger keeps making bodies even as you spend one attacker on the swap. Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon is a second home, where a wide swing of Gnomes turns the combat-step pump into a real jump in damage. The token detail is worth getting right: returning a token to pay Sneak works fine as a cost, but the token ceases to exist as a state-based action once it hits hand. You do not get to redeploy it. So the swap effectively eats one attacker permanently, which the wide board can usually absorb.

This is casual go-wide territory, not cEDH; the format does not win through white combat anthems, and precon decks will rarely assemble the specific declare-blockers line on cue.

Within the white anthem slot he competes with static pumps like Spear of Heliod and Intangible Virtue, both of which always work rather than requiring the Sneak setup. Leonardo's edge is the timing: the +2/+0 lands after blockers are locked, rewriting damage assignment when opponents have already committed and blocked into a smaller board math. The static anthems telegraph their numbers before blocks; Leonardo does not. Without that go-wide combat shell, the body alone does not earn a slot in the 99, and most decks cut him.

A white one-drop for go-wide aggro that wants a cheap body now and a combat-step anthem later, but Modern's white aggro lists are built around faster, more punishing one-drops and do not want a 2/1 that asks you to build a board before it pays off. Sneak needs a committed attack already breaking your way, which is a lot of setup for an effect a Modern board has usually already won or lost without. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play. No archetype here is asking for it.

Legal since its March 2026 release and barely registered in tracked Standard since. Across the season it has surfaced in essentially one tracked list, as a two-of, which puts it well below even fringe status: a card that someone has tried, not a card the format has adopted.

The gap is structural, and it sits in the tempo math the design depends on. Sneak only pays off if you have already built a wide white board and connected with an attacker, then choose to swap that attacker out during declare blockers for a tapped, attacking Leonardo and an anthem swing. That is a real tempo blowout when it lands, but Standard's white aggro shells right now would rather keep the connecting body on the board than launder it into a five-mana combat trick that needs the rest of the team already deployed to matter. The hardcast mode (a 2/1 with a first-strike outlet) is a fine one-drop in a vacuum and a nonfactor in a format where the premier white one-drops do more on rate. Without a go-wide payoff deck that specifically wants the declare-blockers ambush, there is no home asking for the alternate cost.

Leonardo rotates with its parent block in 2028, so the clock is long; the constraint is current playability, not the calendar. The white aggressive decks that would theoretically host it are the same ones already built, and none of them on the announced pool reach for this effect. A future printing that rewards returning your own attackers, or a slower white-go-wide metagame, could change that. Nothing on the announced schedule does.

The interesting question for a card like this in white aggro is whether the format already has the board to make Sneak pay off, and Mono-White Humans and Boros Heroic are the only Pioneer decks that swing wide enough to consider it. So far it has not registered in tracked tournament play. It is legal, but no Pioneer list has picked it up this season.

The structural problem is the cost. Sneak asks you to return an unblocked attacker during declare blockers, which means spending a connecting creature to ambush in a tapped 2/1 with a one-shot anthem. Mono-White Humans does not want to bounce a Thalia's Lieutenant or an anthem target out of its own board to do this; the deck's whole engine is permanence and convertible counters. Boros Heroic is even less interested, since it wins by stacking pump spells on a single attacker, not by trading a connecting creature for a combat-step body. The anthem trigger is real, but the deck that wants a turn-five wide swing already has Brimaz, King of Oreskos and other curve-toppers that do not cost it a creature.

Hardcast, the floor is a white one-drop with a first-strike outlet, and that slot is contested. Mono-White Humans runs its one-mana count full of creatures that grow the team or trigger Thalia's Lieutenant; a vanilla 2/1 with an activation does not clear that bar. The card needs a white aggro deck built to spend connecting attackers, and Pioneer's current map does not have one.

A white one-drop in a format where Black Lotus makes three mana on turn zero and Ancestral Recall draws three for one. Vintage aggro is not a deck; the combat-step Sneak payoff asks for a wide creature board the format never assembles. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play. Noise.

A white 2/1 for one mana in a format where Swords to Plowshares answers it on the way in for the same cost. The hardcast rate puts him on an aggressive white curve, but a vanilla one-drop with a first-strike activation does not compete with Death and Taxes' actual one-drops, where Mother of Runes does far more for the same mana. The Sneak cost is where the design points, but it runs five mana, demands a connecting attacker inside a committed combat, and pays the Force of Will tax on the way down. The anthem fires only when that alternate cost was paid, which means you build a wide board first and then convert a swing, exactly the plan Legacy's removal density and Wasteland-pressured manabases are built to break before combat math matters. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play this season. Does not clear the bar.
