How this card plays

8 reviews

A five-mana 3/3 that leaves a 2/2 token behind is a rate the format does not pay for, and there is no white archetype waiting for it. Pauper's white decks are built around the gates and bird package in Caw-Gates, or around aggressive curves in Boros Synthesis, neither of which has an open slot for a five-mana body whose ceiling is two small creatures. The Plainscycling clause is the only part doing real work, and Pauper already runs cheaper, more flexible cyclers when it wants land-or-spell flood insurance; spending a card on a 2 generic mana basic tutor with a five-mana hard cast attached is a worse deal than the format's existing options.

Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play. That is the correct read structurally as well: nothing in the white commons pool is asking for this effect at this cost, and the format's clock makes a five-mana role-player with no immediate impact a hard sell. Under a tix on MTGO, and not played at any price.
