The doubling clause is the whole card, and it points at exactly one archetype: ninjutsu. Splinter, Radical Rat asks for Ninjas with combat-damage triggers and pays out two copies of each connect: two draws, two mills, two bounces. Color identity decides the conversation before deck role does. The hybrid W/B pips plus the blue activation put Splinter into Esper, which means the obvious Dimir homes are off the table. Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow and Satoru Umezawa cannot legally run a white card, so neither can host this. If you want the doubler in your command zone's colors, you are building an Esper ninjutsu shell, and the natural pilot is Splinter itself at the helm.

That constraint is also the card's ceiling. As your own commander, Splinter wants a board of evasive Ninjas with connect triggers, then doubles each one; the unblockable activation, which needs no tap and can fire the turn Splinter resolves, feeds the same engine the static doubles. The 2/4 holds the ground while the deck assembles its attackers. The static ability is live the moment it hits play, so the first Ninja that connects that turn already triggers twice.

This is a Bracket 3 card, occasionally Bracket 4 in a tuned Esper Ninja list where the doubled triggers become the clock. It is too synergy-dependent for precon shells and too slow for cEDH, where the white splash buys nothing the Dimir builds want. On a 2026 printing, expect secondary pricing to settle into the sub-$10 specialist range. The real question is not what Splinter displaces but whether your table supports an Esper ninjutsu deck at all. No Ninjas, no Splinter; no white in your identity, no Splinter either.
