Esper

Plane — Alara

Planechase turns Alara's shards into table-wide local law, and this one encodes the artifact-obsessed allied triad as a rule you stand on rather than a spell you cast. The static discount is the part that works before anyone rolls the planar die: every artifact spell the whole table casts comes down cheaper while this plane is active, a shard-native tax break that quietly rewards whichever deck was already built to abuse it. The chaos trigger is where Esper's flavor actually lands. Its colors (white, blue, and black) get retroactively stapled with the artifact type, then every artifact creature you control gains vigilance, menace, and lifelink at once: etherium bodies that guard, evade, and drain in a single swing. That is a heavy keyword grant for a card with no printed cost, but the chaos-die dependency is the leash. The payoff only fires on a symbol most planar decks see once or twice a game, so it detonates as a burst rather than ticking as an engine. Note that the two abilities do not feed each other: the discount reduces artifact spells being cast, while the type-change touches only creatures already in play. What the type-change does do is retroactively widen what any other artifact-matters effect on the battlefield can see, turning a board of Esper-colored creatures into artifact fodder for a turn. This is Planechase distilling a shard's identity into an environment-wide condition that vanishes the moment the planar deck moves on.

Artifact spells cost 1 generic mana less to cast. Whenever chaos ensues, creatures you control that are white, blue, and/or black become artifacts in addition to their other types until end of turn. Then each artifact creature you control gains vigilance, menace, and lifelink until end of turn.
