Rocksteady, Crash Courser

A six-mana 7/7 that can only ever be chump-blocked is a closer, and the question TMT poses is whether the tribal line ever gets to matter. The card was built to anchor a green Boar shell, with the single-blocker clause extended to every Boar you control. The set doesn't supply that pool: the tribal axis here is Turtles and villains at uncommon, so in practice you cast Rocksteady for the first line and the Forestcycle, and the Boar text is a payoff waiting on creatures that aren't in the format.

That lands it in BG Midrange and GU Ramp as top-end, around P1P7 to P1P9, after removal, the hybrid uncommons, and equipment are locked. The body earns the slot because Sneak appears on 59 cards, which fills boards with small evasive bodies that can't profitably gang-block a 7/7. The single-blocker clause turns a go-wide ground stall into a one-for-one trade or a chump every turn.

The catch is that this set does have Trample on 22 cards, so the no-gang-block clause isn't the unique evasion it reads as on its own page; you are competing for that lane. And the removal punishes the rate directly. Grounded for Life destroys it mid-attack and costs less against a tapped creature, so they can ambush the alpha strike. Stomped by the Foot answers it before it connects. Six mana into a threat one common kills, in a format where black decks run two or three such pieces, is the rate you tolerate, not the one you want.

Forestcycling for two is the insurance that lets it maindeck without dragging the curve. When you're light early, you pitch it to find a Forest; the 7/7 was never doing work on turn four anyway. Resolve it late and it ends games in two swings against anything without a flier wall.

The interesting thing about Boars in Commander is how few of them there are and how badly they want a reason to attack together. This is the reason. A 7/7 for six that demands one-for-one answers in combat, plus a static that hands the same combat geometry to every Boar you control, is a tribal lord aimed at a creature type that has spent decades as filler.

The honest problem is the commander pool. The strongest dedicated Boar commander is Selvala, Heart of the Wilds in a stretch, or more naturally a Gruul or mono-green tokens build that happens to lean on the type. There is no widely-played legendary Boar payoff that makes this the obvious 99th card, so Rocksteady mostly lives in the command zone of its own deck or as a 99 in green stompy builds piloted by something like Ghalta, Primal Hunger, where it is simply a hard-to-gang-block fatty and the Boar clause is upside you may never use.

That places it squarely in Bracket 2, casual builds in the $200-500 range. It is too slow and too narrow for Bracket 3 optimized lists, which want their six-drops to win rather than to push damage through chump-blockers. Expect a sub-$5 price; this is a commons-and-uncommons tribal piece, not a chase card.

In its actual home, the Boar shell, it competes with nothing because nothing else does this job. Forestcycling for is the saving grace: when the board is wrong or you are flooding on the wrong colors, the 7/7 becomes a land, which is exactly the flexibility a six-mana tribal payoff needs in singleton. Outside a Boar deck, it is a vanilla evasive beater, and most green decks have better six-drops.

The Boar tribal payoff has no Boar tribal deck to anchor in Modern, and that is the whole problem. The closest the format comes to a green creatures deck that would want a six-mana body is something in the Yawgmoth Combo or stompy Eldrazi orbit, and neither runs Boars or wants a 7/7 that does nothing the turn it lands. A six-mana 7/7 with a soft evasion clause is a Standard or Commander card asking for a creature-type density that tournament Modern does not assemble.

If you stripped the second line and treated this purely as a fatty, the incumbent is whatever green ramp is paying six for impact, and there the comparison is brutal: Primeval Titan fetches lands and wins on resolution, Eldrazi payoffs end games. A 7/7 that can be chump-blocked once and otherwise just attacks is well short of that bar. Forestcycling is a real concession, a clean way to cut the card when the board is wrong, but a card you mostly want to cycle is not a card earning a maindeck slot.

It is legal and unregistered in tracked tournament play this season, which matches the structural read. Modern's clock does not wait for a turn-six creature that needs a board of Boars to matter, and the deck those Boars would build does not exist here. No active home.

The payoff a Boar deck needs and a Boar deck does not exist in Standard right now. Outside that shell, this is a six-mana 7/7 with a blocking restriction, competing for slots against green fatties that close games faster or bring more board presence. Forestcycling is the only line that justifies a copy in a non-tribal list, and a card you run to cycle is a card you are not really running. Legal, but yet to register in tracked play this season. Cut once a real Boar count fails to materialize.

Legal in Pioneer since its March 2026 release, this has yet to register in any tracked tournament list this season, and the reason is structural rather than circumstantial. Pioneer has no Boar deck. The Boar creature type exists across the cardpool as a scattering of midrange green bodies that have never shared a board on purpose, and Rocksteady is a lord built for a tribe that does not have enough members worth assembling. Without that base, the second line of text (the clause extending the blocking restriction to your Boars) does nothing, and what is left is a six-mana 7/7 with a soft evasion ability.

A vanilla-adjacent fatty at six is not a card any existing green deck wants. Mono-Green Devotion is the format's only top-tier green archetype, and its curve-topper conversation runs through Cavalier of Thorns into Karn, the Great Creator and the Storm the Festival package, all of which generate value or close games immediately. Rocksteady generates neither. It is a single attacker that an opponent answers with one removal spell or one good blocker, and the forestcycling line is a tacit admission that the body will often be the wrong card to draw.

There is no slot competition to describe because there is no slot. The deck that would want this, a dedicated green Boar tribal build, does not exist in Pioneer's archetype map and is not close to existing. This is a card waiting on a shell that the cardpool cannot currently supply.

A six-mana 7/7 in Pauper runs straight into Gurmag Angler, which delivers a 5/5 for as little as a single black mana once the graveyard is stocked, and into Mulldrifter at four for a body plus two cards. Rocksteady asks for the full six and offers no card advantage attached, so the cost has to be justified entirely by the Boar payoff, and that payoff has nowhere to land. There is no Boar tribal archetype in Pauper. The format's green aggression runs through Elves, where the relevant lords pump power and the deck wins on raw board presence before turn six anyway. A go-wide restriction on a creature type the format does not assemble is a payoff without a deck.

Forestcycling for two is the only line that touches a real Pauper shell, and it is marginal: a green ramp or Tron splash piece would rather cycle a Land Grant or play a body that does something on resolution. The blocking-restriction clause is a fine combat rule in a vacuum, but the format's clock makes a six-mana standalone beater a hard sell when it doesn't also draw, ramp, or interact.

Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play this season, which matches the structural read: no Pauper archetype values the Boar line, and the body is overcosted for the format's pace. Sub-one tix on MTGO, and not played at any price.

A six-mana 7/7 in a format where Black Lotus makes three mana on turn zero and Ancestral Recall draws three for one. The Boar lord clause anchors a tribal combat shell, which is a Standard or Commander conversation, not a Vintage one; nothing here touches the Power Nine mana math, the Workshops engine, or the Bazaar/Dredge engine. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play. Noise.

A six-mana 7/7 in a format where the green ramp payoffs already run through one-mana acceleration into threats that end games faster than this one starts. Legacy does not pay six mana for a creature with a conditional evasion clause when Force of Will exists at zero to answer it on the way down. The Boar lord text is a Limited and Commander reward, not a Legacy axis: the format has no Boar deck, and a tribal payoff with no tribe is just a vanilla fatty with a Forest-fetch eject button.

Forestcycling is the most relevant line here, and it still does not get there: green decks that want a tutorable land have cheaper cyclers, and a card you mostly pitch is not a card that earns a slot. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play. Does not clear the bar.
