Every Plains printed faces the same constraint: a card with one line of reminder text still has to feel like it belongs to its set. The mechanical job is fixed (tap for white, no cost, no restriction, no upside beyond the color symbol), so the entire expressive budget lives in the frame and the art. That is the quiet discipline of basic-land design: the card must remain legal in every white deck ever built, must shuffle indistinguishably with every other Plains, and must still carry a set's visual identity onto the battlefield without a single rules-text concession. Full-art treatments push that discipline furthest, putting the card in a lineage that runs from the Unglued basics through Zendikar to the modern Secret Lair and Universes Beyond runs. Players who care about deck aesthetics treat basics as the most personal slot in the list, because they are the cards seen most often and the cards where substitution is frictionless. A full-art Plains is not a different card from an Alpha Plains in any game-mechanical sense; it is a different statement about what the deck is for.
