White's answer to the sweeper it can see coming. The design turns on a single timing window: with the board threatened, flash this in, exile your non-Angel creatures, and let the Wrath resolve into empty air. The Protector dies to the same sweeper, and its death returns your team, so the sequence reads as a blink that survives a board wipe rather than a permanent shelter. The leaves-the-battlefield clause is what keeps it honest: the creatures come back the instant the Angel is gone, which means an opponent's removal spell aimed at the Protector simply hands you the reunion. It cannot warehouse a board indefinitely; it is a rescue, not a vault. Foretell threads the needle that every flash-value creature struggles with, wanting the ambush but not wanting a stranded four-drop in the opener: bank it face-down early, flash it in later at a discount, and it never rots as a dead card. The non-Angel clause is a quiet piece of self-limiting design: it means a Protector can never shelter another Protector, so the effect stays a one-shot rescue rather than a recursive lock, and it nudges the deck toward wide, expendable boards over a single haymaker. A 3/4 flyer is a genuine clock underneath all of that, which separates this from pure insurance: with nothing to save, it still closes games in the air, and the exile clause becomes upside rather than the reason it is in the deck.
