Blue artifact decks in TMT get a one-mana body that does three jobs depending on the turn, and the constraint that makes it work is the same one that caps its value: you need an artifact entering on the turn you want the swing. In a format where Mechanized Ninja Cavalry and the equipment package (Bespoke Bō, Novel Nunchaku) give blue drafters a steady artifact-per-turn cadence, that condition is easier to meet than the text reads. UR Artifacts is the obvious home, with GU a softer fit when the green half leans on equipment rather than Food.

P1P5 to P1P7 in UR, a touch later in GU. Maindeck in those archetypes; outside artifact decks entirely it's a 1/1 for one with a conditional Spell Pierce, so the pick value falls off a cliff the moment you aren't building around the trigger.

The sacrifice mode is where the card earns its slot, and the math is about mana, not cards. Format removal sits at three-plus mana (Stomped by the Foot, Grounded for Life, Dimensional Exile), so when you counter a removal spell aimed at your real threat, you trade a one-mana 1/1 for their three-mana answer. That's a card-neutral exchange that buys you a turn of tempo: your threat survives and keeps attacking while they've spent more mana than you did. The fragile body is the floor: it dies to anything, including incidental Sneak chip, and the counter mode can't answer Shredder's Revenge or a sweeper.

What lifts it off that floor is the discipline the design demands. The format's combat math punishes greedy sequencing, so spending the body on a swing means the removal you wanted to counter resolves on your next threat instead. Pick the job the turn actually needs.

A one-mana protection counter on a body for blue artifact decks in Commander, the kind of slot a Urza or Sai list fills once it has run through every higher-impact piece of interaction. The narrowing is what makes it filler here: the sacrifice counter only stops spells targeting your own artifacts and creatures, so in a singleton format it does nothing against the board wipes, edicts, and player-targeted removal that actually threaten an artifact deck. The compression the card promises is real, but at this rate it saves one permanent once. Swan Song and the rest of the one-mana protection suite cover more ground without asking you to commit a 1/1 first. It goes in the lower-budget builds and comes out when a wider answer arrives.

A one-mana evasive body stapled to a one-shot protective counter, in the colors blue artifact aggro wants. It surfaces in a handful of fringe Modern lists, never more than a single copy. The unblockability rides on sequencing the deck already runs, but the counter only answers spells aimed at your own artifacts and creatures, too narrow a job for affinity to spend a slot on over a payoff or a faster threat. It lives in budget artifact brews and gets cut the moment Ornithopter and Memnite are pulling toward actual aggression.

A format that already owns the engine pieces this card wants ought to have a deck for it by now, and it mostly does not. Across tracked Standard this season it sits in fringe territory, a two-of on the rare occasion it shows up, scattered across a handful of pilots rather than anchored to any defined archetype. The artifact-aggro shell that would use both halves (the free unblockable attacker after an artifact resolves, the one-blue protection counter) has not cohered into anything that travels. The protection clause earns its keep against targeted removal, but it cannot touch the sweepers and edicts the current midrange decks lean on, and a 1/1 that forces a choice between attacking and holding up counter mana is a tempo proposition that needs a faster, more artifact-dense board than the format is currently producing. It is a build-around still waiting on its build.

First printed in March 2026, the card rotates in the fall of 2027 under Standard's annual rotation, the exact date pending Wizards' announcement. The runway is long, and that is the point. The deck this card wants is likelier to arrive through a future artifact payoff than to vanish before anyone assembles it. Nothing on the announced schedule hands it a home, but the clock is generous enough that a single printing in the right direction could change the read well before rotation enters the conversation.

A one-mana evasive body for Pioneer mono-blue artifact builds that want a cheap creature whose unblockable clause falls out of casting an artifact anyway, with a one-shot counter stapled on for protection. The trouble is that Pioneer's artifact decks have not coalesced into anything that needs the third or fourth one-drop, and a 1/1 that wants its counter held up competes with the same blue mana every protection-light tempo plan is already short on. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play this season. The home it is designed for does not exist in the format yet.

A one-mana 1/1 counter on a stick in a format where Force of Will and Mental Misstep set the free interaction tier and Flusterstorm handles the noncreature stack for one mana. The sacrifice clause only counters spells targeting your own artifacts and creatures, which makes it a protection effect, not interaction; it cannot touch a combo piece, a tutor, or a sweeper. The evasion rider asks for an artifact deck, but Vintage's artifact deck is Mishra's Workshop, which is not casting one-mana blue creatures off Lotus and Moxen. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play.

A one-mana 1/1 in a format where the one-drop blue creatures that matter are Delver of Secrets and Dragon's Rage Channeler, both of which threaten three or more in the air without asking you to sequence an artifact first. The evasion here is conditional on the artifact trigger, and the counter half is a narrow protection effect that only saves your own permanents from spells that target them. That rules out Brainstorm-deck sweepers, combo interaction, and most of what Legacy blue decks actually want to hold up mana for, where the bar is Force of Will at zero and Daze at one. A protection counter stapled to a fragile body does not earn a slot over those.
