A one-mana 0/2 flier ages poorly in a medium-speed format where the common ground stalls actually matter, and the Food token is the only reason this clears the bar. The body absorbs a Sneak attacker once, soaks a removal spell that was earmarked for something better, or simply walls a 1/1, and you bank a Food no matter how it dies. That second clause is the whole pick: a one-mana investment that bleeds out Stomped by the Foot and leaves a three-life sacrifice payoff behind.
WB Food wants this around P1P6 to P1P8 as a maindeck two-of. It is starved for cheap Food enablers that don't cost a card, and this one buys time on a separate axis: the flier sits as an air blocker against the format's evasive Sneak threats until the Food matters as a buffer against a Shredder, Unrelenting clock. Anchovy & Banana Pizza and the legendary payoffs that count artifacts both reward the leaves-the-battlefield trigger, so the body is incidental and the second trigger is the card.
A note on the math the 0 power forces: it never kills anything in combat. Against a 2/2 Sneak flier it chumps and dies; it does not trade. The value is the Food, not the block, which is exactly why aggressive white drafters should leave it.
Outside WB Food the pick band collapses. RW Equipment and Boros Sneak don't want a body that can't carry Bespoke Bō or push damage. P1P11 or sideboard there, frequently a pass. The flying earns its keep only in decks long enough to cash a recurring three-life Food, where the trigger is the reason and the wings are the bonus.
