Choked Estuary
The trade-off here is a reveal, not a payment: hold an Island or Swamp card in hand and the dual comes in untapped; hold nothing that qualifies and it sits tapped the turn you most want it live. That inverts the older fastland math, where lands entered untapped only on the early turns and tapped later. This design ties the tempo to your hand's composition rather than the turn count, so it rewards a manabase carrying enough blue or black sources in hand to keep the reveal reliable, and punishes greedy three-and-four-color piles that often can't show a relevant card at the right moment. Note the reveal keys off card types, not basic status: any Island or Swamp will do, so a dual with the right type or a fetchable typed land counts as well as a basic. The information you surrender costs no resource and the card stays in your grip, which is the elegant part: you pay with a peek, not a tempo hit or a life total. The structural cousin is the checkland line (Drowned Catacomb and its kin), which also keys off relevant land types, but those read the battlefield while this reads the hand. The distinction matters in the opening turns, when your board is empty but your grip is not. As a fixer it asks a real deckbuilding question rather than handing out untapped duals for free, which is why this cycle has aged into a clean, low-friction option for two-color decks.
