Chaos Orb

The card whose resolution requires you to stand up. The dexterity clause is not flavor: it is the entire design, an artifact whose activated ability outsources its targeting to physics. Lift the card a foot above the table, flip, and whatever nontoken permanents it touches when it lands (yours, theirs, lands, creatures, the other Chaos Orb if someone was bold enough to run it) are destroyed, with the Orb itself going to the graveyard as the price of admission. Few cards in Magic ask the player to be the randomizer, and fewer still make table geometry a legal game state. Chaos Orb belongs to Magic's earliest moment, before the game had settled which adjudications the rules could even support, and the cost of that experiment was an early exit from organized play. It was restricted almost immediately, then banned outright once tournaments had to adjudicate questions like "what counts as a flip," "can you tear it into confetti and drop the pieces" (the apocryphal Chaos Confetti play), and "how high is one foot, exactly." What remains is a relic that documents the brief window where Magic's designers were willing to let the physical object do work the rules engine could not yet describe. Every later dexterity card, Falling Star and the un-set entries among them, is a footnote to this one.
