The impulse-draw payoff here is scaled to violence, and that scaling is what makes it play differently from every flat top-of-library engine. Most give you a fixed exile-and-cast window; this one keys the ceiling of what you can slam for free directly to combat damage, so a 5/4 with trample connecting for full presents a five-drop off the top and pays for itself, while a chump or a partial block quietly caps what you can steal. That coupling of body size to card advantage is elegant: the same trample that pushes damage through is also raising your free-cast threshold each turn. Blitz sharpens the tension. Paying the surcharge turns the creature into a one-turn hasty striker that draws a card when it dies, reframing it as a burst of tempo and velocity rather than a durable engine. You are choosing, up front, whether this is a repeatable value threat that snowballs across turns or a single explosive swing that replaces itself and clears out of removal range. The land clause is the part that keeps it honest against flood: whiff on the free cast and you still get the card in hand, and lands are always playable off the top regardless of damage. It rewards decks that can reliably connect and want their free spells to be expensive, a narrower ask than the raw rate suggests, but a specific and well-tuned one.
