Wretched Confluence

Instant3 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana

The permission to repeat a mode is what turns this from a flexible utility instant into a scalable weapon. Most modal spells of this lineage spread their three picks across distinct effects; the Confluence cycle hands you three choices from a menu of three and lets you stack the same option twice or three times over. Point all three at the -2/-2 mode and it becomes -6/-6, enough to drop a sizable threat outright or clear a small board. Point all three at the draw mode and it is three cards for three life, a price Black is happy to pay. Point all three at recursion and you reload three creatures from the yard at once. The richest line is mixing: kill something, draw a card, and pull back a body, all from one slot, all on the stack. Because it happens at instant speed, it does the attrition work Black usually reserves for its sorcery-bound tools, but during an opponent's turn, in response. That flexibility is paid for in raw cost: five mana, double-Black, with no efficient floor when you only need one of the three effects. It is a card that scales with how much you already have, which is why it rewards grindy, mana-flush decks and does nothing for lean ones.
