Wildfire Eternal
Afflict turned blocking into a no-win proposition, and this Cleric weaponizes both sides of that trap. Throw a blocker in front of it and you take four to the face regardless; let it through and it casts a free instant or sorcery off the unblocked trigger. The 1/4 body is the giveaway that the combat math is the whole engine: it survives most things it runs into but threatens almost nothing in raw damage, so the defender's choice is never between cost and safety, only between which cost to pay. Refuse to block and the free spell is the punishment; block and afflict is. The design is a careful inversion of the usual free-spell setup. Where extra-combat effects like Aggravated Assault reward connecting with damage, this rewards connecting with intent: the spell fires on declaration of an unblocked attack, not on dealing combat damage, so the payoff lands the moment blocks are skipped rather than after the swing resolves. The defender's only clean escape is removal before combat, which makes the unblocked trigger the prize worth playing around: any haymaker the attacker is holding, cast for free at the only window that matters. The tension is elegant. Every line the defending player has leads to four life or a free spell, and the attacker only needs the threat to survive one swing to collect.
