Warp Artifact

Enchantment — AuraBlack manaBlack mana

A hoser that taxes rather than removes, which is a structurally strange answer for the early game to be reaching for. The aura sticks to a single artifact, but the damage hits the player who controls it, not the object: keep the Mox, lose a life a turn, forever. There is no off-switch short of removing the aura, and the trigger fires on the controller's upkeep, so whoever currently holds the artifact is the one watching the clock tick down. The design vocabulary here predates the cleaner artifact hosers that came later (Energy Flux taxing upkeep in mana, Null Rod shutting off activations wholesale, Stony Silence finishing the thought in white). This is the version where the punishment is a slow bleed rather than a structural lock, which fits the era's assumption that the artifacts worth hating were the Moxen and the Sol Ring sitting in every deck. Two black mana to tax one Mox at a single life per turn is not a rate that survives contact with modern artifact density, but it reads as an unusually legible record of how the original designers thought about sideboard answers: the punishment is psychological as much as material, a permanent reminder that the artifact you kept is costing you something every single turn.
