War Machine, Avenging Arsenal
The double strike payoff has been circling equipment and voltron decks for years, but the usual enablers care about aura or equipment counts in the abstract. Here the trigger reads narrower and hits harder: attack, and every attacking creature you already dressed up in a Cutlass, a suit of armor, or a stack of +1/+1 counters swings twice. The "modified" template does the sorting for you, folding equipment, auras, and counters into one condition so the deck no longer has to pick a lane between the three. A single suited-up beater doubling its damage is the floor; a full board of modified attackers turning combat math into overkill is the ceiling, and the flying body means the enabler itself is a legitimate threat rather than a fragile lord stuck on the ground. Note the shape of the ask: this is not an anthem that sits back and blesses the team. War Machine has to swing to grant double strike, and with no vigilance it commits to the attack alongside the creatures it augments. The 3/5 frame answers that: durable enough to lead the charge and survive the return swing, small enough that it wants to hand its damage to the beaters it built up rather than lean on its own three power. What it represents is the collapse of three adjacent voltron subthemes into one payoff that asks only that a creature be built up, by any means, before the combat step.
