Urza's Armor

Artifact6 generic mana

Six generic mana for a permanent that shaves a single point off every instance of incoming damage is the kind of arithmetic that only matters against a very specific attacker: the deck that wins by stacking many small hits instead of a few large ones. Against a Lightning Bolt or a swing from one big creature, blunting a single point is rounding error. Against a horde of one-power tokens, a Goblin swarm, or a burn shell built on repeated pings, that flat reduction taxes every source on the board at once, and the tax compounds with each attacker. Everything interesting here sits in that distinction between damage frequency and damage magnitude, and the card interrogates the clock across the table: how is that deck actually planning to deal twenty? The prevention is unconditional and self-sustaining once it resolves: no charge cost, no upkeep payment, no decrement, no expiration, which lets it sit as a permanent fixture in the long game rather than a single-turn Fog. The cost is the obvious flaw, and the reason it never anchored a strategy. Six mana for an effect that simply whiffs against the threats most decks were built to deploy asks too much. It belongs to a small lineage of asymmetric prevention pieces that punish wide, low-power aggression and ignore everything else, and it remains the most uncompromising version of that idea because it refuses to hedge toward general utility.
