The three-turn arc funds its own reanimation. Chapter one draws three at the cost of three life, front-loading the fuel; chapter two mills three, which reads as a downside on a Saga you cast for value until you register that chapter three is reading from the pile you just stocked. The finale returns up to three creatures with total mana value eight or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. What sets it apart from the mass-reanimation lineage that runs through Living Death is the tax on pacing plus the ceiling on cost: because a Saga advances after each of your draw steps, the payoff cannot land until the second turn after the one you cast it on, and the total-mana-value cap lets you raise a swarm of cheaper bodies or cheat a single eight-drop haymaker back into play. The mill between chapters is not filler; it is the loading dock for the finale. The necrodermis counters do not exile or otherwise lock the returned creatures; they simply mark them and turn them into artifacts in addition to their other types, which is where the flavor seam does real mechanical work. Suddenly your reanimated board answers to artifact-matters payoffs, and just as suddenly it answers to artifact removal. It is a card for a build that treats its graveyard as a staging ground and its own draw and mill as inputs to a single, telegraphed detonation.

(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.) I — You draw three cards and you lose 3 life. II — Mill three cards. III — Choose up to three target creature cards with total mana value 8 or less in your graveyard. Return each of them to the battlefield with a necrodermis counter on it. They're artifacts in addition to their other types.
