The Ring Goes South

Sorcery3 generic manaGreen mana

Green's mass-ramp spells have historically paid a fixed count: two lands, three, a number set at deckbuilding with no relationship to the board. This one instead scales its payout to the number of legendary creatures you control, and it front-loads a mechanic that lets you nudge that count upward before the search resolves. The Ring tempts you first, so the Ring-bearer designation lands on a creature of your choice, and because a Ring-bearer becomes legendary, that same spell can manufacture a legend it then counts. The dig reads off a board state you are partly writing on cast, not a fixed threshold decided in the deck list. Everything after is clean but consequential: it reveals until it finds exactly enough lands, drops them onto the battlefield tapped, and buries every non-land miss at the bottom of your library in random order. Each whiff before quota is a card pulled away from your next few draws, so the spell smooths your mana while scrambling what you would have seen. The tempo cost is that tapped clause: no untapped mana the turn you cast it, no acceleration into a combo turn, just a wider base for the long game. What sits oddly against the ramp tradition is the governor itself, keyed to legends rather than creature count or Forests in play, and paired with a temptation that quietly feeds it. It is a ramp piece built for a deck already treating its legendary creatures as the engine, then handed a lever to make the count larger than the board first suggests.

The Ring tempts you. Then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal X land cards, where X is the number of legendary creatures you control. Put those land cards onto the battlefield tapped and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
