The Horus Heresy

Enchantment — Saga3 generic manaBlue manaBlack manaRed mana

The three-chapter arc reads like a betrayal narrative rendered in lore counters, and the mechanics track the theme with unusual precision. Chapter I hands you every opponent's best nonlegendary creature at once, but the theft is leased, not owned: the creatures snap back the instant the Saga leaves, which is exactly what Chapter III sets up. Chapter II is the payoff for going wide on stolen goods, drawing a card for each creature you control but don't own, so the design rewards you for stacking the theft before that second lore counter arrives. Then the final chapter turns the whole thing into scorched earth: each player, you first, condemns one creature to destruction, and because the Saga sacrifices itself after Chapter III, the surviving borrowed creatures revert to their owners a beat later. What makes this more than a temporary Threaten stapled to a wrath is the sequencing tension it builds into a single permanent. The Saga is cast once and advances on its own schedule, one counter per turn, so the whole plan is committed the moment it resolves: you want the stolen creatures long enough to convert them into cards on Chapter II, but you also want to be the player who no longer needs them by Chapter III, since the destruction clause and the reversion both land on the same turn. It is a mass-theft engine with a built-in expiry date, and the interesting play is deciding what to do with an army you were only ever going to keep for two turns.
