The Ancient One
An 8/8 for two mana is the kind of stat line that usually comes shackled to a downside severe enough to break the card; here the leash is the descend clause, and that clause doubles as the deckbuilding brief. Descend 8 keeps the body inert until eight permanent cards sit in your own graveyard, so the two mana is not really the price of the creature. It is the entry fee to an engine you have to assemble separately. The activated ability does the assembling: a repeatable loot where every discard mills a chosen player equal to the discarded card's mana value, filling your yard toward the threshold while chipping at an opponent's library at the same time. Because the mill scales with what you pitch, the ability rewards ditching your fattest cards, which happen to be the hardest to cast and the most valuable to bury for a self-mill shell anyway. That alignment is the elegant part: turning the god on and decking the table are the same repeated action. What you get in return is a finisher with two lanes, combat once it wakes up or a straight library-out before it ever swings. The design punishes anyone who wants a cheap fatty and pays off a build that mines its own graveyard for fuel rather than treating a full yard as dead cards.
