Thallid Soothsayer
Fungus creatures have always been about converting bodies into resources, and this one turns them into cards instead of mana or chump blocks. Black has historically paid for card draw with life (Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, the Phyrexian Arena tax), but a sacrifice outlet rewrites the cost: the fuel is creatures you were already willing to lose, and Saproling decks that spawn a steady stream of disposable tokens are happy to feed it. The rate stays honest because every pull carries a double cost: the 2/3 body is unremarkable, and each card demands two mana plus a creature, so drawing depletes your board and your resources at once. This is not an engine you spin freely; it grinds. The natural partners are anything that manufactures fodder cheaply: token-makers, recurring sacrifice fodder, creatures that arrive with friends. Where the zero-cost sacrifice outlets like Carrion Feeder and Viscera Seer enable combo lines precisely because their activation is free, the two-mana tax here rules that out entirely and points the card somewhere else: attrition. It sits in the long lineage of aristocrat enablers that care less about what dies than how often you can pull the lever, but it bends the payoff toward the long game, refilling a grinding hand one creature at a time rather than feeding a single explosive turn.
