Tervigon
The scaling body and the token engine are usually two separate cards; here they compound through a single number. Ravenous fixes the size at cast, so the X you pay for the counters is the exact X that Spawn Termagants pays out: an X=10 cast enters a 10/10, connects for ten, and then the combat damage itself mints ten 1/1 Tyranids. The tokens are not an alternative to the damage the defender takes; they are minted by that damage, which is why the swing and the swarm arrive in the same beat. Trample is the piece that keeps the connection honest, because a chump blocker only shaves the damage that gets through and therefore only shaves the litter, rarely stopping either. Each Termagant is a small green body in its own right, which is the second axis: this is fodder for a sacrifice or aristocrat shell as readily as it is a beatdown threat. The body itself does not grow once it is down (the size is locked at cast), so the decision is front-loaded: sink surplus mana into a modest early threat, or hold it as a haymaker that refills the board on contact. What makes it land is that the flavor and the mechanic agree completely. A Tyranid brood organism that births more Tyranids the moment it draws blood is exactly what the card does, with Ravenous supplying the appetite and Spawn Termagants supplying the brood.
