Starlit Angel

A simple flyer with one job: teach the new player what an Angel is supposed to feel like. Portal was built as the entry-point product, a set stripped of instants, stack interaction, and most of the rules vocabulary that scared off newcomers, so its creatures had to carry the game's identity through stats and flavor alone. A 3/4 flying body for is the platonic shape of "good white creature" in that teaching language: big enough to dominate the air, durable enough to survive a trade, expensive enough to read as a payoff. No keyword soup, nothing on the card but the picture and the evasion, nothing to misplay. The angel was already the brand's signpost for white's celestial-guardian theme, and this is that theme delivered at its most legible: the picture tells you it protects you, the flying tells you it gets through, and the toughness tells you it sticks around. Later sets would load the Angel slot with lifegain, anthem effects, and recursion, pushing the tribe toward complexity the Portal version deliberately withheld. What this card represents is the floor those designs were built on top of: the unadorned statement of what an Angel costs and what it does, written for a player seeing the type line for the first time.
