Star of Extinction

Twenty damage is a number chosen for spectacle rather than efficiency: it clears any realistic board several times over, killing every creature the two-and-three-toughness field is built around, plus anything short of the rare 20-plus body, and burning down planeswalkers whose loyalty rarely climbs anywhere near that figure. Most damage-based sweepers pay for red's aversion to unconditional destruction by capping small and leaving the fatties standing; this one raises the ceiling so high that the cap almost never comes up in practice. Almost. Because it deals damage rather than destroying, it does have real gaps: indestructible creatures shrug it off entirely (damage marks lethal against toughness, and indestructible ignores lethal no matter how absurd the figure), and a genuinely enormous body or a planeswalker loaded past twenty loyalty can outlast it. So this is a wipe that answers everything a burn spell can answer, scaled up until "everything a burn spell can answer" covers nearly the whole board. The land destruction bolted to the front is the genuinely strange half: it reads as an afterthought, turning a finisher into a symmetrical reset that also strips a mana source, a detail that seems to exist more for flavor than function. Seven mana for a sorcery this overkill is the honest cost of the theater it sells: you are not paying for a clean answer, you are paying for the joke that the number itself tells.
