Smothering Tithe
The genius here is turning your opponents' most fundamental action into a tax they can never fully escape. Every draw step, every cantrip, every wheel becomes a fork: pay a toll or hand you ramp. In a duel that already stings, but the design scales viciously with the number of opponents drawing cards, which is why it found its home at multiplayer tables where three players each hit that choice on their own draw step and again on every card-draw spell they cast. The two-mana escape clause is the balancing lever, and it looks generous until you count how often it actually gets paid. Early on, when everyone is mana-starved, opponents grit their teeth and let the Treasures pile up; by the time paying is affordable, you have banked a war chest that fixes any color and fuels explosive turns. The Treasure it makes is identical to any other, so it feeds sacrifice engines and artifact synergies as a bonus. Where a plain ramp enchantment sits idle until your untap step, this one clocks in during your opponents' turns, generating resources while you do nothing but exist, and it specifically punishes the card-advantage engines that would otherwise bury you. It is punishment dressed as an optional payment, and the option almost always favors the person who cast it.
