Smaug the Magnificent

Legendary Creature — Dragon2 generic manaRed manaRed mana

The whole design turns on a resource the card feeds itself. A four-mana flying haste body that reads as a modest 4/3 in a vacuum becomes a scaling artillery piece the moment its attack trigger is measured against the Treasure count you have been quietly banking. Each of your upkeeps adds one to the stockpile, so the damage number climbs on its own even if you never sacrifice a single token for mana. The tension the design leans into is whether to spend Treasures or hoard them: cash them in and you accelerate your board but shrink Smaug's next attack; sit on the pile and each swing hits harder while your mana stays locked in gold. Haste matters here because it collapses the setup window: the turn he lands is the turn the counter starts moving toward you, and any Treasures already in play arrive as damage immediately rather than next combat. The attack damage goes to any target, which quietly untethers the payoff from the red damage race and turns a wide Treasure economy into reach that can close from an empty board or clear a blocker before combat math even happens. It is a hoard given a mana value and a flight ceiling, the accumulation itself made into a clock.
