Skewer the Critics

Spectacle is the mechanic that asks a red deck to prove it did its job before it hands out a discount, and this is the cleanest test case for the idea. The full mana value gets you the exact rate of a workmanlike removal spell; pay the spectacle cost after an opponent has already lost life this turn and the same three damage arrives for a single red mana, matching the efficiency red usually reserves for its face-down staples. The condition is not a build-around, it is a description of what an aggressive red deck is already doing on turn two: attack, deal damage, cast this. The design works because it never rewards a stumble. In a slow or stalled game, when no life has been lost, you are stuck holding an overcosted burn spell, which is precisely the game state where a control deck deserves not to be punished by it. That asymmetry (cheap when you are ahead on tempo, clunky when you are not) is what lets the effect sit far below Lightning Bolt's ceiling on rate while still functioning as premium reach in the decks built to trigger it. The "any target" clause is what earns it the aggro slot over creature-only alternatives: it points at blockers early and at faces late, closing the same games it helped open.
