Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep

Legendary Land

A red source that taps for mana like any other, then asks for a second commitment to do something almost nothing else does: hand a legendary creature first strike at instant speed. The granularity is the whole design point. This is not a global pump or a tribal anthem; it reaches one legend at a time, which means its value scales directly with how many legends share the battlefield with it. In an early era when legendary creatures were a scattered, awkward supertype rather than a deck-building axis, a land that cared specifically about them was a flavor-forward curiosity: a fortress that sharpens the blades of warlords and samurai who pass through it. The combat math it changes is narrow but real. First strike granted at the right moment turns a defensive block into a free kill or lets an attacking legend punch through a larger body unscathed, and because the ability is a land's, it sits outside the spell economy entirely: no card spent, no tempo surrendered beyond the red and the tap. The cost is that the land does nothing for a board of nonlegendary creatures, and its mana ability competes with its combat trick for the same tap. It is a piece built for a table where legends are the norm rather than the exception, a context that arrived years after the card itself did.
