The three-color split does clean division of labor across permanent types, so a deck built around this Goblin is really a deck built around a reliable supply of expendable fodder: token generators feed the black mode, artifact engines feed the red mode, enchantment value feeds the green mode. The activation cost is the governor. At two generic plus a color plus a permanent each time, the exchange only tilts one-sided if you have arranged in advance to lose the worse object; without that setup you are trading even and paying for the privilege. That construction requirement is what the whole engine rests on, favoring a board already primed to shed chaff on demand and grinding opponents down one prized permanent at a time while your own losses launder into value.
