The X in a creature spell's own mana cost is a design rarity, and it is the entire lever here: every mana you pour in scales directly into the mana value you get to tutor onto the battlefield. That single number does double duty, functioning both as the cost you pay and the ceiling on what you fetch, so the card is a self-throttling toolbox. Pay four total and X is one, so you find a one-drop; sink real mana into it and you drop the top of your curve directly into play, dodging the summoning cost you would pay hardcasting that creature yourself. The "if you cast it" clause welds the search to the hard cast, guaranteeing this was never meant to be blinked or reanimated into a free tutor loop: the payment stays non-negotiable. The 3/1 body reads as almost apologetic, and it should; the value is not the Elf Druid standing there, it is the creature it drags out of the deck the moment it lands. This belongs to the family of cheat-into-play engines that ask you to build a deck worth tutoring from rather than one built around a single bomb, since the search wants a live target at every point on the curve you might realistically pay for. The Naya color identity does quiet work too, stapling a green-white-red toolbox to a mana-scaling trigger and letting a goodstuff shell run one flexible answer to whatever the board demands.
