The impulse-draw payoff most black aggressive two-drops want, gated behind a sacrifice you have to be willing to pay. Menace on a fragile body is a familiar way to force chip damage through, but the combat trigger does something two-color midrange usually cannot: it exiles the top of the defender's library and, if you feed it a creature or artifact, lets you play that card this turn with mana of any type. That any-type clause is the quiet load-bearing part. A black deck with no other colors can flip an opposing white removal spell or a green ramp piece and actually spend the exiled card, turning the opponent's deck into a splash you never had to build a manabase for. The sacrifice is the tax that keeps it from being pure card advantage: the exiled card is temporary, so you are trading a permanent you already control for one shot at a card you may not even want, and the math only favors you when the fodder is already dying or already spent. Menace pushing the trigger through, the sacrifice deciding whether the trigger is worth cashing: that dual gate is why it plays differently from the pile of aristocrat-adjacent value creatures that want fodder for its own sake. It pays off best on a board where sacrifice material and the aggression to connect already coexist, so the trigger arrives fed rather than starved.
