Tempo and disruption stapled into one instant-speed line: the bounce buys a turn, and the forced discard makes the opponent pay to rebuild. That ordering is what separates this from plain bounce. A naked Boomerang lets the opponent simply replay what you returned, often at no cost; stripping a card afterward guarantees the trade is real, because the returned permanent is sitting in their hand the moment the discard fires. The sequencing does the work. Against an otherwise empty grip, the choice is illusory: they have nothing to discard but the thing you just bounced, so you have effectively destroyed that permanent outright, dressed up as a tempo play. Against a full hand the discard is still a discard, but now they get to choose what goes; they can shed a dead card and keep the permanent you returned, replaying it later. That is the honest read: a clean one-for-one where they always end down a card, but you do not get to dictate which one, and a savvy opponent will pitch their least useful card rather than the one you targeted. The hook is the fusion of two color identities, black's willingness to attack the hand and blue's instant-speed window, into a tidy Dimir statement. The price is timing precision. Fire it at a thin hand against a key permanent and the discard bites the thing you bounced; fire it into a full grip and you have spent three mana to delay a permanent and trade one card, no blowout, but never a giveaway.
