Three of black's oldest disruptive axes fit inside a single evasive body here, and the "choose any number" clause lets you fire them in whatever combination the board demands. What makes the design bite is that every mode is symmetric: discard, drain-and-draw, and edict all hit the controller too, so each attack becomes a bargaining problem rather than an obvious payoff. A 3/3 flyer with haste is already priced to convert combat damage into value the turn it lands, but symmetry turns that value into a puzzle. Empty your hand first and the discard mode strips a card from an opponent who still has one while costing you nothing; hold one spare creature and the sacrifice mode becomes a one-sided edict; keep your library deep and the draw mode refills you while eroding an opponent who cannot spare the life. Each mode has a natural context where the symmetry breaks in your favor, and the deckbuilding reward is engineering that break: making a mirror-image effect land asymmetrically. That is a harder and more interesting constraint than raw card advantage, which is why building around this asks a different question than most value engines do. Black has a long history of even-handed disruption you are expected to bend to your side, from the old mass-discard effects to edict staples like Diabolic Edict; this folds three of those traditions onto one hasty flyer and hands you the trigger.
