Color-pie politics drive this design more than the rate does. Red has always owned haste, but here the keyword is exported to creatures red could never make on its own: black's recursive threats, green's oversized beaters. That restriction (only black or green targets) is the whole tell. It exists to reward a Rakdos or Gruul creature suite, the heavy bodies that win combats but show up a turn slow. The body folds to the first removal spell pointed at it, and the activation is two generic mana per creature, so this never functions as a standalone threat; it is enabler-only, a permission slip that converts another deck's fat into a surprise attacker. The grant is what matters, not its speed: a summoning-sick green stompy lands and swings the same turn, and a black evasive threat the opponent has written off as defensive can suddenly turn sideways into combat. The instant-speed timing rarely earns extra value, since haste only removes the summoning-sickness restriction; it lets a freshly cast creature attack or use a tap ability the turn it arrives, but it does not untap anything already committed. It reads as a multicolor-matters card from an era built around gold cards and color combinations, a small piece of red trying to extend an ally's reach rather than do its own work. The Wizard tag comes along for free for decks that count those, but the design intent is plainer: red lending speed to the two colors it shares blood with.
