Pulse of the Tangle

A spell that refunds itself when you're behind is doing something subtle: it turns a flooded board against the aggressor by making the catch-up cheaper than the rush. The token costs the same whether you cast it once or six times, but the recursion only triggers while an opponent controls more creatures than you, so a deck under pressure keeps replaying it until parity arrives and then, exactly when it would become free card advantage, the engine shuts off. That self-limiting clause is the entire balancing act: it cannot snowball you ahead, only drag you level. The design sits in a small cycle of "rebound when behind" effects alongside Pulse of the Forge and Pulse of the Grid, all built on the same premise that a spell which only repeats while you're losing is safe to hand back repeatedly. What it produces is a slow grind of bodies sized to trade up or block down, the kind of resource that punishes an opponent for committing wider than you. The catch is structural: against a single large threat or an empty board, it casts once and stays cast, a vanilla 3/3 Beast for three. It is a green answer to going wide that asks you to already be behind to collect its value, which is both the honesty of the design and the reason it has always been a niche piece rather than a staple.
