Pack Leader
The lord that arrived when Dogs stopped being Hounds. For years the tribe sat scattered under the "Hound" creature type with no payoff to hold it together; the errata that consolidated everything into Dog gave the type a body worth building toward, and this is the anchor of that shift. The +1/+1 anthem is the ordinary half of the design and, by its "Other Dogs" wording, excludes this creature itself: it buffs the pack, not the leader. The attack trigger is the half that changes how the tribe fights. Preventing all combat damage to Dogs you control (this creature included, since the ability names "Dogs you control" without excluding itself) turns every block into a one-sided exchange: your creatures survive, theirs do not, and you keep the board while grinding the opponent down. That protection is not a static shield, though, which is the restriction that keeps it fair. It fires only on the turn this creature attacks, so a defensive stand or a turn spent developing leaves the pack exposed. Built for aggressive tribal boards that want to swing every turn regardless of the math, it rewards committing to the attack rather than sandbagging, and it punishes an opponent who tries to trade into a full attack step: block if you like, but your blockers die and the pack walks through untouched.
