Ostracize
Targeted discard with a scalpel rather than a hammer: where Duress strips spells and Hymn to Tourach tears two cards out at random, this names a single category and removes the best one from it. The reveal-and-choose structure is the whole point. You see the full hand, then pull the creature that hurts most, which makes it a precision answer to a threat-light hand or a control mirror where the only relevant cards are a finisher or two. The narrowness is the cost: against a deck holding no creatures, it is a blank, and at sorcery speed it cannot react to a topdecked threat or strip a creature mid-combat. That restriction is also what justified printing proactive hand disruption that cared about a specific card type at all, in an era when black's discard was learning to be selective rather than indiscriminate. The lineage runs both directions from here: Cabal Therapy later let you name a card blind and sacrifice for a second cast, Thoughtseize widened the choice to any nonland, and Despise narrowed it back to creatures and planeswalkers. This sits on the conservative end of that spectrum, a single-target creature pluck for one black mana, useful precisely when you already know your opponent's plan runs through a body.
