The plus draws and bleeds a point, a steady refill that asks black to pay in its native currency rather than tempo. The minus is what fixes the card in fair decks: a hard, unconditional creature kill on a permanent that has to be answered, so the same card both stabilizes the board and rebuilds the hand it spent. That pairing (removal plus card advantage on one body) is the engine every grindy black deck wants, and it starts at a loyalty high enough to fire the minus and survive. The ultimate is the part nobody ever needs to reach: a one-sided emblem dropped on an opponent that bleeds them two life every time any player draws, including their own draw step, so the clock ticks no matter who holds the cards. Mechanically it's the deal black has circled for years: trade life for advantage, then trade advantage for a clock. The tuning keeps the self-inflicted life loss modest enough that the point-a-turn bites in the matchups where the race is close and vanishes in the ones where it isn't. What makes it durable is that every mode overlaps: draw, kill, and finish are all the same card wearing three faces, and none of them ever sits dead.
