Mystic Retrieval

Sorcery3 generic manaBlue mana

The blue half of a two-spell engine that costs more than the spell it usually fetches: paying four mana to put a one- or two-mana instant or sorcery back in hand only makes sense when the spell you want is irreplaceable, and the flashback cost is built to answer exactly that. The wrinkle lives in the color of that second cast: pay 3 generic manaBlue mana from hand for the first retrieval, then 2 generic manaRed mana from the graveyard for the second, and a single card becomes two distinct recoveries spread across two colors. That red-costed flashback is the design's reason for living, because it lets a deck buy back the same key spell twice without running two copies, pulling a second color into a card whose front face is mono-blue. The catch is timing: both modes are sorcery-speed, so this is a planning card, not a reactive one. You retrieve on your own turn, choosing the spell you want a turn ahead. It rewards graveyard-heavy spell decks that lean on a small number of high-impact instants and sorceries: the kind of shell that wants to cast its best card three or four times a game and treats a reload turn as a worthwhile investment toward that.
