Mr. Foxglove

Legendary Creature — Fox Rogue2 generic manaGreen manaWhite manaBlue mana

The attack trigger encodes a catch-up rule most card-draw payoffs refuse to make explicit: you only draw the difference between the defending player's hand and yours, so the engine idles precisely when you are ahead and floods when you are behind. That asymmetry is the whole design tension. Against a control player hoarding answers you refill toward parity; against a deck that has already emptied its hand, or once you have out-drawn everyone at the table, the trigger finds nothing to give. That failure state is where the second clause earns its place: whenever the math comes up zero or negative, you may instead cheat a creature from hand onto the battlefield, converting a dead draw-trigger into free tempo. The card is built to usually do something on attack, just not always the same thing, and it self-selects which mode the board demands. The 3/5 lifelink body is deliberately unthreatening on offense, which matters, because this wants to attack every turn to keep the engine ticking: the 5 toughness lets it swing into a crowded board and survive most blocks, while lifelink offsets whatever damage does connect back. It is a rare draw engine that rewards being the underdog, then quietly turns the moment you catch up into a way to put your biggest threat down for nothing.

Rules text

Lifelink Whenever Mr. Foxglove attacks, draw cards equal to the number of cards in defending player's hand minus the number of cards in your hand. If you didn't draw cards this way, you may put a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield.
