A redirection engine masquerading as a defensive spell, and the design is more granular than the rate suggests. Most damage-prevention effects from this era worked in bulk: prevent the next N damage, or fog an attacker entirely. Here the granted ability redirects damage one point at a time, repeatable for zero mana, with the activations gated to you alone. That single-point increment is the whole trick. You are not soaking one big hit; you are dispersing a stream of damage, redirecting each point as it threatens to land, until your designated creature absorbs whatever you choose to feed it. Against a single attacker the math is simple, but against multiple sources, or a single large source you want to split, the per-point granularity lets you decide exactly how much pain a creature eats and how much it passes along. The instant-speed casting means you set this up at the moment of need, then activate after blocks are declared but before combat damage is dealt, staging the redirection while there is still damage to catch. The "only you may activate" clause is the safety valve that keeps an opponent from turning your own redirector against you. It is a puzzle-piece card built for a player who wants to engineer combat math down to the point of damage, not a clean answer you point and forget.
