Lone Rider // It That Rides as One

Creature — Human Knight // Creature — Eldrazi Horror

The flip condition is the whole design problem laid bare: a 1/1 with first strike and lifelink gains exactly one life when it connects, and the back face wants three in a single turn. That gap is what the card is built around. It cannot transform on its own attack alone; it needs a second source of lifegain stacked onto the same turn, a soul-warden trigger, a second lifelinker, a one-shot life spell, anything that pushes the counter past the threshold by the end step. Clear that bar and the front face's modest body becomes a 4/4 with first strike, trample, and lifelink that swings the next combat for a four-life haymaker, which itself keeps the engine fed. The design is a positive-feedback loop with a deliberately high ignition cost: easy to read, hard to fire without a deck bent toward incremental lifegain. The timing window matters too, since the check happens at the beginning of the end step rather than on damage, so all the turn's lifegain pools before the game asks whether you cleared three. It is a lifegain payoff that refuses to reward a single attack and insists on a board built to gain more than once a turn, which is exactly why it lives or dies by the shell around it rather than its own stat line.
