Lava Hounds
The four damage lands on you, not your opponent, the instant the body hits the table. That is the old downside-creature bargain in its plainest form: red and black got to print oversized beaters in the late-Tempest years on the condition that the cost was front-loaded and self-inflicted, a fixed toll with no targeting and no interaction to navigate. What dates this one is the size of the toll. Four life to your own face is more than a Lightning Bolt's worth, paid for a haste threat that, in its era, was barely above curve to begin with. Later self-damage designs learned to sweeten the deal: a card drawn, a clause that recurs the creature, a token left behind. Here you get the body and the speed and nothing else, the math only balancing if you are already the aggressor racing to end the game before those four points come due. It works as a fossil of how fast red was permitted to be back then, and how unforgiving the price for that speed was: real pressure, paid for entirely up front, lethal to the player who is behind rather than ahead.
