Nine generic mana with no colored requirement makes this castable in any TMT deck on paper. The format mostly does not get there. The common curve tops out at five and six, and there is no ramp at common to speed the climb: Food exists for chip lifegain and sacrifice fodder, not mana. Eight mana is the realistic ceiling a deck plans around; reaching nine usually means the game has already tipped in one direction or the other.

The body is the entire pitch, and it is the reason the card is not a trap. A 9/9 with flying, trample, indestructible, and haste ends a game on its own, no board required. The anthem clause that hands the same package to your other artifact creatures is real upside when an artifact board survives to the cast, but TMT's removal is medium-density and evenly spread (Stomped by the Foot, Grounded for Life, Dimensional Exile), so the supporting cast has usually been thinned by the time you untap with nine lands. Treat the anthem as a bonus, not the plan.

What turns this from a curiosity into a build-around is Sneak, the set's defining mechanic at fifty-nine cards. A UR or Grixis artifacts shell can put Krang onto the battlefield without paying the cost, swing for nine in the air, and ignore the empty field entirely. The competition for that finisher slot is the set's mythic Turtle legends and Shredder, Unrelenting, all bombs that cost far less and never ask you to also assemble a cheat engine.

Hard-cast, this is a P1P8-or-later hold that rarely makes the maindeck. As a Sneak payoff in a dedicated UR artifacts build, it is a deliberate late-pick reward worth the detour.

The payoff at the top of an artifact-token curve, and the kind of card whose nine-mana cost sorts the decks that can use it from the ones that cannot. The body matters less than the static ability: every other artifact creature you control gains flying, trample, indestructible, and haste, which turns a board of Thopters, Servos, or Constructs into an army that swings the turn this resolves and shrugs off a board wipe. Functionally a one-sided Akroma's Memorial on a 9/9 finisher.

The shells that want it run artifact-token engines with the ramp to cheat past the cost. Urza, Lord High Artificer is the cleanest fit; the Construct token plan goes from wide to lethal in one resolution, and Urza's own activated ability provides the mana to reach nine. Sai, Master Thopterist makes the Thopter version, where the static keyword grant matters more than any single body. This is a Bracket 3-4 card. It is too slow and too top-heavy for Bracket 1-2 precon shells, which lack the acceleration to land a nine-drop before the game is decided, and cEDH does not have time for a fair nine-mana finisher when faster combo lines exist.

Budget sits in the $5-15 range, so the cost gate is mana, not money. Within the artifact-aggro submodule it competes with Akroma's Memorial for the keyword-anthem slot; this version adds a 9/9 evasive indestructible body but ties the buff to artifact creatures specifically, where Memorial hits your whole board. The political read is real: resolving an indestructible flying army with haste reads as the turn the table has to answer or lose, which it usually cannot. Invisible outside artifact-creature decks.

The question is which Modern artifact shell has the acceleration to reach nine and a board of artifact creatures worth buffing when it lands, and the honest answer is that no such deck is currently fielding this.

The structural home would be an artifact-ramp shell built around fast mana into a top-end payoff, the slot Hardened Scales decks reserve for their best closer or that an Affinity build might want as a one-card overrun. But those decks already have closers that cost a fraction of this and win without it: Hardened Scales lists run their counters and a Walking Ballista or Arcbound Ravager kill, and Affinity's overrun is the board itself plus a cheap finisher, not a nine-drop that needs the board to already exist. The anthem only matters if you have artifact creatures in play, and any shell that already has a lethal artifact board does not need to spend nine mana to make it lethal.

That is the trap with high-end lords in Modern. The card that wins when you are already winning is not a card Modern decks make room for, because the format punishes the turns you spend assembling the nine. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play, and the structural read explains why: it asks for a turn and a board that Modern's artifact decks have already converted into a win by the time they arrive. A nine-mana top-end finisher for a Standard artifact-aggro shell that has not arrived: the format does not have the artifact-mana acceleration or the wide token base to make a nine-drop lord the payoff. It turns up in a stray brew or two and nothing else this season. Without ramp that produces generic mana in bulk, you are casting this on turn nine in a format that ends well before then. Build the artifact deck around cheaper threats; revisit this only if a dedicated ramp package shows up.

Legal in Pioneer since its release this season, and yet to register in any tracked tournament list. The structural reason is plain: Pioneer has no artifact-creature deck that ramps to nine.

The card the identity blurb describes is real (a one-sided anthem on a 9/9 that wins on resolution) but the math only matters if a shell can reach it. Pioneer's artifact decks do not. The token-and-affinity builds that flirt with the archetype, the ones leaning on Thopter and Servo production, win well before turn nine and want their top-end cheaper; nothing in those lists wants to spend the late game casting a single creature. The format's ramp shells are green devotion and Lotus Field, neither of which fields a board of artifact creatures for the lord to buff, and neither of which needs a finisher this expensive when their own payoffs close faster.

There is no slot competition to map here because there is no slot. A nine-mana payoff needs either an artifact-mana engine dense enough to cheat the cost or a reanimation-style cheat-into-play effect, and Pioneer's artifact-creature decks are built around going wide and going under, not going over the top. Until a deck exists that both produces artifact creatures in bulk and accelerates past nine mana, this stays a card whose effect is undeniable and whose home is theoretical. The archetype that wants it is not on Pioneer's map.

A nine-mana creature in a format where Black Lotus makes three mana on turn zero and the fast game is decided long before turn nine. Even Tinker, the format's standard cheat-into-play line, points at Blightsteel Colossus or a Bolas's Citadel, not a lord that needs other artifact creatures already on board to matter. The Power Nine tax is acceleration toward your best card; this is not it. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play.

Nine generic mana for a payoff is a different conversation in a format where Reanimator cheats Griselbrand into play off Reanimate at one mana and Sneak and Show puts Emrakul on the table on turn one or two. The effect ends games, but Legacy does not reach nine mana fairly, and the artifact-creature shells that could ramp there do not exist at a tier-one level the way they do in Vintage Shops. Any honest cast plan pays the Force of Will tax with no upside to show for it, and a cheat-into-play deck already has better, cheaper finishers than a 9/9 lord. Legal, but yet to register in tracked tournament play, and the structural read says that holds. Does not clear the bar.
