The trigger fires off any blue spell cast at the table, yours included, which complicates the lazy read that this is purely an anti-opponent toll. In a deck full of cheap blue cantrips and counters, it taxes your own game plan back into life as a side effect; against a blue opponent, it skims a point from every Counterspell and tempo play they make. Either way the rate is deliberately threadbare: a single optional life, no cap, but also no body, no cards, no board presence. It belongs to a family of color-specific answer pieces that trade self-contained power for hyperspecialization, the same spirit as the Circle of Protection cards even if the mechanics differ. The honesty in the design is that the card knows exactly how narrow it is and prices itself to match: two mana to deploy, conditional to exploit, dependent on blue spells being cast by someone. Its value is never a fixed quantity; it is a function of how much blue is in the game, whoever is supplying it. In a metagame thick with blue spells the points accumulate faster than anyone wants to count. In a game where blue never appears, it is a colorless artifact that politely watches the turns go by.
