Kaervek, the Spiteful

The trick to this design is that the anthem points the wrong way: a static -1/-1 that hits every other creature on the board, yours included. Because the effect reads "other creatures," the 3/2 body sits above the pulse it emits and shrugs it off entirely, which reframes the card less as a build-around than as a standing tax on the opposition's smallest bodies. Token swarms, one-toughness utility creatures, and mana dorks evaporate the moment this resolves, but you pay for the sweep on your side of the table too, so the reward accrues to decks that field few creatures or creatures large enough to survive the point of shrink. That symmetry is what keeps the effect from being a free board wipe: it punishes go-wide mirrors and rewards a controlling shell that treats its own board as expendable. Compared with the older approach of stapling a global shrink to a static enchantment (the Night of Souls' Betrayal line), attaching the effect to a creature that itself dodges it gives you a clock alongside the attrition. The result is a hatebear-shaped answer to swarms: cheap enough to land early, disruptive by simply existing, and, at 3/2, sized to walk over the field it just cleared while the smaller things around it die.
