The naming of the two abilities does more work than the effects themselves. Negative and Affirmative are not keywords with rules meaning: they are flavor labels grafted onto a static ward-granting ability and an activated evasion grant, dressing a support piece in the voice of a laconic robot dog. What the card actually offers is a two-part protection package aimed entirely at the legends around it. The ward it hands other legendary creatures is conditional on staying untapped, which sets up a genuine tension: the same board state where you want to tap it to make something unblockable is the state where you strip your team's protection. That is the design's honest cost, paid in a resource (its own untapped status) rather than mana or cards. Doctor's companion is where it earns its keep, letting it ride alongside a Doctor commander so its defensive aura protects the deck's centerpiece from targeted removal without occupying the command slot alone. As a body, a 1/1 does nothing but carry the abilities and sit in the way; the whole point is that it is cheap enough to deploy early and quietly warp how opponents have to spend their removal on your other threats. It is a support creature built for a specific partnership, and it reads exactly as intended: a loyal, low-stat companion whose value is measured entirely in what it keeps alive.
