The combat-damage trigger turns any loyalty activation into a doubled one: an ultimate you did not have to pay full loyalty for twice, a plus ability that pings two opponents at once, a minus that clears two threats on a single click. The catch is baked into the sequencing. The copy only lands if the Phoenix connects first, so flying and haste are not merely aggression stats here; they are the delivery mechanism for the payoff, and the trigger dies on the vine if you swing into an empty board with no walker to activate. Recursion is what turns the combat trick into an engine: cast a planeswalker and the Phoenix returns from the graveyard, so every walker you deploy is at once a fresh ability to copy and a fresh way to re-arm the copier. That loop, a hasty evasive body that keeps coming back whenever you commit another walker, grafts persistence onto a color archetype that historically had none.
