Jaheira's Respite

Instant4 generic manaGreen mana

A Fog buys one turn of survival; this one bills the attacker for the privilege. The prevention clause is the familiar green stopgap, holding off a wide board or a lethal alpha strike, but the ramp attached to it turns a defensive blank into a tempo swing. The count scales off the assault against you: the more creatures committed to the attack, the more basics you dig onto the battlefield tapped, so the play is best exactly when the board looks worst. That runs backward from how fog effects usually work. Most of them leave you where you started, one turn richer in time but no closer to closing; this one converts an incoming beatdown into mana for the following turns, so a desperate block becomes a launchpad. The tapped-and-shuffle rider keeps the rate in check: the lands arrive too late to spend this turn, and you thin nothing you did not already fetch. It rewards decks built to absorb a swing and answer with a haymaker, and it punishes an opponent for overcommitting to the attack that was supposed to end you. Green has always paid for its lack of hard interaction with mana and time; this folds both into a single instant, letting the color's traditional weakness (a big attack it cannot answer on the stack) become the trigger for its traditional strength.
